Communities in north america a small and tight-knit, but since the population density is low, large cities only house a couple thousand people. Many buildings are communal spaces. Most of the time, its a trade-and barter system, so people will provide work in exchange for what they need that week. No government, but since groups are so small and everybody's self-sufficient not a lot of problems are caused. Parties are often sent out to explore the outer banks of the main city, in groups of 5 or less. Each group is led by a Steward, an individual who is knowledgable in the working of the forest and has a deep emotional connection to nature. The group can stay days in the forest, packing with them only essentials and a radio each.
